On May 14, 2026, the Department of Artificial Intelligence within the Faculty of Applied Science at Tishk International University (TIU) hosted a highly successful national workshop titled “How AI Reads Language: From Context to Dialect and Regional Variation”<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>Held in Hall 302 of the Education Building, the event brought together nearly 80 academics, students, researchers, and industry professionals to explore the intersection of machine learning and human communication<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop commenced with a welcoming ceremony hosted by Ms. Aya, followed by the playing of the national anthems<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>Prof. Dr. Sultan T. Abu-Orabi, President of TIU, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of staying at the forefront of technological advancements<\/span><\/span>. Following this, Prof. Dr. Faiq H.S. <\/span>Hussain, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science, formally welcomed the attendees to the academic sessions<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The core of the workshop featured two distinguished guest speakers who unpacked the central challenges of computational linguistics<\/span><\/span>. Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Ismael Hamarash from Salahaddin University-Erbil delivered the first presentation, and Assistant. <\/span>Prof. Dr. Abdulbasit Kamil Faeq from Koya University led the second session<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>The experts discussed how language resists rigid boundaries and adapts to different communicative contexts<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>By drawing on recent advances in large language models and AI-generated embedding spaces, they demonstrated how machines process complex, non-standard linguistic patterns and regional dialects<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>The event concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, followed by an award ceremony where presenters received plaques and certificates of appreciation<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Department of Artificial Intelligence’s initiative to bridge the gap between computational technology and human communication directly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By providing advanced, interdisciplinary learning opportunities and fostering a critical understanding of AI, the workshop strongly supports SDG 4: Quality Education. The focus on cutting-edge large language models and computational linguistics promotes SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by encouraging technological advancement and research capabilities within the region. Furthermore, by bringing together experts from TIU, Salahaddin University, and Koya University, along with diverse industry professionals, this event exemplifies SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, demonstrating the power of collaborative academic networks to drive sustainable intellectual growth.<\/p>\n
