<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"From May 3 to May 24, 2026, a team of ten students from the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Tishk International University carried out a community support project for the local Care Children Center in Erbil. The project concluded with a visit to the center, during which the team delivered a set of needed supplies. The project was led by Mueen Muhammed, supported by Yasin Ahmed as assistant team leader, along with the rest of the team, as part of the department’s efforts to encourage student involvement in the local community.<\/p>\n
The Care Children Center provides care and housing for children. While government funding covers the center’s basic needs, such facilities often lack certain everyday supplies. To address this, the AI department team consulted with the center’s management to identify the most needed items before beginning the project.<\/p>\n
Over the three weeks, the students used their own resources to collect and prepare a set of items for the center. These included shoes, wet tissues, disposable tablecloths, and laundry detergent, all selected to support the children’s daily care.<\/p>\n
In keeping with government regulations and out of respect for the children’s privacy, all items were handed directly to the center’s manager. No photos or videos of the children were taken during the visit.<\/p>\n
In addition to the donation, the project aimed to inform TIU students about life in residential care centers, encourage practical forms of community support, and promote a greater sense of care and inclusion for children without family support. By sharing their experience with the wider TIU community, the team hopes to encourage similar efforts in the future.<\/p>\n
This project relates to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It supports SDG 1 (No Poverty) by helping meet basic needs within the community, SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by providing items that support the children’s health and care, SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by promoting the inclusion and well-being of children in residential care, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening ties between the university and local care institutions.<\/p>\n
This project reflects TIU’s continued commitment to preparing students who combine academic learning with meaningful community involvement.<\/p>\n
