The Cybersecurity and IT Departments at Tishk International University (TIU) have successfully completed a comprehensive professional development training titled “Utilizing AI and ChatGPT for Academic Research.”
The training course ran from December 5, 2024, to February 27, 2025, with a total of 5 sessions. Each session was 2 hours long, with one hour dedicated to theory and one hour for practical application.
Course Objectives and Outcomes
This initiative aimed to empower TIU faculty and staff with essential skills in using Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude to enhance academic productivity. The course was launched with an impressive participation of 68 staff members and was delivered by Dr. Hemin Ibrahim, Mr. Mohammed Salim, and a few other instructors.
Upon completion, participants were able to understand key Generative AI concepts, use tools for tasks like drafting, summarizing, and data analysis, and practice ethical usage of AI. The course’s structured format, combining theory and hands-on practice, was highly praised by attendees.
Next Steps
Based on the positive feedback and high engagement, the departments recommend:
- Offering Advanced-Level Workshops: To focus on advanced AI tools and specific research methodologies.
- Documenting & Sharing Success Stories: To highlight case studies from participants who have successfully integrated AI into their research.
- Institutional Integration: To make AI literacy a key part of TIU’s professional development strategy and onboarding programs.
