On 8th June 2026, as part of the Introduction to Community Development and Behavior (IDCB) course, students from the Departments of Anesthesia and Radiology at the Faculty of Applied Science, Tishk International University (TIU), successfully implemented the White Orchid Project, a community-focused initiative aimed at supporting patients at Nanakali Hospital and promoting a culture of compassion and social responsibility.
Under the supervision of Mr. Adam Jalal, the project was developed with the goal of providing practical assistance to patients in need while encouraging students to engage in meaningful community service. To achieve this objective, the student team organized a Food Fundraising Event that received remarkable support from students, university staff, and visitors.
Through the fundraising campaign, the team successfully raised 700,000 IQD, demonstrating the power of collective action and community engagement. The funds were used to purchase and donate 325 essential medications to support patient care at Nanakali Hospital, including 150 bottles of Parasitol and 175 vials of Omeprazole 40 mg.
The White Orchid Project highlights the importance of empathy, teamwork, and civic engagement in addressing community needs. By transforming a classroom project into a real-world humanitarian initiative, the students demonstrated how academic learning can be applied to create a positive social impact.
The White Orchid Project stands as an inspiring example of how students can turn knowledge into action, creating tangible benefits for the community while developing valuable leadership and service-learning skills, through dedication, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose, the students proved that even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
