The University recently organized an International Workshop for Cybersecurity Students , aimed at enhancing students’ practical understanding of data management and its critical role in today’s digital and humanitarian environments.
The workshop was delivered by Ms. Roshna Omer Abdulrahman , Information Management Associate at UNHCR Iraq , who shared valuable insights drawn from her extensive professional experience in managing, analyzing, and utilizing data in complex operational settings.
Titled “Data in Our Work,” the session focused on the importance of data in decision-making, information security, and operational efficiency. Ms. Abdulrahman highlighted how data is collected, processed, protected, and applied in real-world contexts, particularly within international organizations such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Cybersecurity students are actively engaged in discussions covering data governance, ethical data use, and the challenges of protecting sensitive information. The workshop provided participants with a deeper understanding of how cybersecurity principles intersect with information management in humanitarian and global institutions.
This workshop reflects the University’s ongoing commitment to bridging academic knowledge with international professional practice, and to prepare students for careers in cybersecurity, data management, and related fields.
