TIU Hosts National Workshop on World Cancer Day: “Shield Your Cells: Food as Prevention
On February 4, 2025, Tishk International University (TIU) successfully hosted a National Workshop on World Cancer Day, titled “Shield Your Cells: Food as Prevention.” The event was organized by the Faculty of Applied Science, in collaboration with the Nutrition and Dietetics Department and the Medical Technical Radiology Department.
The workshop was graciously opened by TIU President, Prof. Dr. Sultan T. Abu-Orabi, who warmly welcomed all guests and emphasized the university’s commitment to advancing research in cancer prevention and nutrition. The event was further honored by the presence of Prof. Dr. Abdulqadir Naqshbandi, President of Lebanese French University (LFU), along with numerous distinguished guests and faculty members from Hawler Medical University (HMU).
Held at the Education Building, Hall #302, at 10:00 AM , the workshop brought together experts to discuss the critical role of food and nutrition in cancer prevention.
The first speaker, Dr. Rewan Hussein Hasan, a General Surgeon from Hawler Medical University, provided an in-depth discussion on the medical perspective of cancer prevention, emphasizing early detection, lifestyle modifications, and the impact of diet on cancer progression. Dr. Hasan highlighted the importance of integrating preventive healthcare measures to reduce cancer risks.
The second speaker, Prof. Dr. Jalal Ali Jalal, a renowned Pathologist from Hawler Medical University, focused on the scientific and pathological aspects of cancer development. He explained how cellular mutations, environmental factors, and dietary influences contribute to the onset of cancer. His session underscored the significance of nutritional interventions in reducing carcinogenic effects on the body.
The final speaker, Prof. Dr. Sherzad Ali, an expert Nutritionist from Hawler Medical University, emphasized the role of nutrition in cancer prevention and management. He provided practical dietary recommendations, highlighting anti-cancer foods, essential nutrients, and balanced meal plans that can strengthen the immune system and minimize cancer risks. His session concluded with an interactive discussion on how individuals can adopt sustainable dietary habits to enhance long-term health.
Attendees, including students, faculty members, and healthcare professionals, actively participated in discussions and a dynamic Q&A session, engaging in meaningful dialogue about integrating nutrition into healthcare and disease prevention strategies. The presence of medical experts, university leaders, and researchers from various institutions underscored the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration in the fight against cancer.
