Community Project: TIU IT Students Build a Bus Tracking App for Erbil
The Information Technology Department at Tishk International University is excited to share a new community project, the “Erbil Public Transportation Tracking App.” This project was done by students Tara Dler, Warin Aswad, and Zhyar Farhad, guided by Mr. Mohammed Salim, as part of their graduation work for the academic year 2023-2024.
The project began on 13 November 2023 and continued until 30 May 2024.
To make sure the app was helpful and met the needs of local commuters, the students spent a lot of time in the community. They visited officials at the Ministry of Transportation, checked out bus stations in Qala, and talked with many people around Erbil. These visits helped them understand the main issues people face with public transportation and what improvements were needed.
The app they created helps people see where buses are in real-time and when they will arrive. This makes it easier for everyone in Erbil to plan their travel, avoid long waits, and have a more comfortable ride. The app addresses problems like buses being off schedule or too full.
This effort shows the university’s commitment to using technology to solve real-life problems and help the community. The project will be featured on the IT Department’s website to highlight how our students are making a difference in Erbil.
