National Workshop on Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness

In collaboration with the Medical Microbiology, College of Health Sciences, Hawler Medical University (HMU), the Medical Analysis Department, Faculty of Applied Sciences at Tishk International University (TIU) hosted a National Workshop on Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness on November 22nd, 2023. The excessive use of antibiotics is the main contributor of antimicrobial resistance. It allows microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites, to develop resistance to antimicrobial agents that were once successful in treating infections.

The workshop was attended by the Head of Board of Trustees, President, Vice President, and other academics. The workshop featured presentations by notable speakers including Dr. Salah Tofiq, Head of Medical Microbiology Department at Hawler Medical University, who gave an informative overview of Antimicrobial Resistance and its causes. Following this, Dr. Aryan Rzgar, Lecturer at Hawler Medical University, spoke about the significance of maintaining awareness about this issue and ways to prevent its emergence and spread.

Finally, Mr. Soran Kayfi, Coordinator at the Medical Analysis Department stressed the significance of reducing the use of antimicrobial drugs in agricultural and veterinary industries. This was highlighted as a significant step in reducing the likelihood of developing Antimicrobial Resistance. The event provided the attendees with knowledge regarding the variety of practices that can aid in preventing the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance.
