Diabetes Awareness: Strengthening Wellness (Community Project)

On December 6th, a group of students in the Medical Analysis Department, Faculty of Applied Sciences at Tishk International University (TIU) organized a community outreach project on to enhance diabetes awareness at Cambridge International High School. This significant educational event, generously sponsored by Dalany Laboratory, aimed to engage with teenagers, a demographic increasingly susceptible to diabetes due, in part, to high sugar consumption.

During the event, the students delivered an informative presentation on various forms of diabetes mellitus, highlighting its symptoms, and discussing effective prevention strategies. They differentiated between type 1 and type 2 diabetes and underscored the pivotal role of a healthy lifestyle in disease prevention. Key prevention strategies emphasized included regular physical activity, maintaining a balanced diet, and vigilant monitoring of blood sugar levels.

As a practical component of this initiative, the students conducted essential health tests, including blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood grouping assessments, for both the staff and students of the high school. This activity was instrumental in evaluating the health status of the participants and served as a critical tool in the early detection of potential health issues.

The project represented an invaluable opportunity for the medical analysis students to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world context. Through this initiative, they played an integral role in promoting diabetes prevention and cultivating a culture of health awareness within the school community. Their efforts were instrumental in educating young individuals about the risks associated with excessive sugar intake and the potential development of type 2 diabetes, thereby contributing to the formation of a more health-conscious generation.
