On January 15, 2025, students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics – TIU took their expertise beyond the university walls to Renwayi Elementary School. The Activity was designed to educate the younger generation on the impact of dietary choices through engaging presentations and interactive play. The visit focused on a critical comparison between the convenience of fast food and the  benefits of a balanced, whole food diet.

The initiative was warmly received by the school’s administration. Principal Naznaz commended the university students for their professionalism and their ability to connect with the children. “Educating our students about nutrition at this age is vital,” Principal Naznaz remarked.

The students delivered a series of presentations tailored for elementary aged children. By using relatable examples, they illustrated how fast food while often tasty is frequently high in sodium, unhealthy fats, and processed sugars, which can lead to sluggishness and health issues. In contrast, the presentation highlighted healthy foods as fuel for the body and explaining how vitamins and minerals in healthy food support brain development, bone growth, and physical energy.

To ensure the message resonated, the university students organized a highenergy game titled (Is This Food Healthy or Not?), The  Children were shown various food items and had to quickly categorize them based on their nutritional value.  To celebrate their participation the students  distributed thoughtful gifts and to the pupil.

This visit marks another successful chapter in our university’s commitment to public health. For the Nutrition and Dietetics students, the day provided invaluable experience in community health advocacy and public speaking, proving that the best way to learn science is to teach it.
