National Workshop on World No Tobacco Day Successfully Held at Tishk International University

On May 27, 2025, in recognition of World No Tobacco Day, the Faculty of Applied Science at Tishk International University, in collaboration with the Departments of Nutrition and Dietetics and Cybersecurity, successfully organized a national-level workshop entitled “Empowering Communities Against Tobacco.” The event focused on raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and promoted collective strategies to build healthier, tobacco-free communities.

The aim of the workshop was to highlight the widespread and devastating impact of tobacco use on individual health and public well-being. It emphasized the urgent need for community-based strategies to prevent tobacco use, reduce its prevalence, and support tobacco cessation efforts. The event also underscored the shared responsibility of academic institutions, healthcare professionals, and policymakers in advancing tobacco control initiatives and educating the public about associated health risks.

The workshop featured keynote presentations by esteemed speakers, including Prof. Dr. Faiq Hussain, Ms. Sogetha Dawood, and Dr. Hemin Ibrahim, who provided insightful discussions on the physiological, psychological, and societal consequences of tobacco consumption. Their presentations emphasized both the medical dimensions of tobacco addiction and the importance of collaborative policy measures to counter its use.

In addition to the lectures, the workshop included interactive sessions and open discussions, encouraging participation from students and faculty members. Attendees engaged in meaningful dialogue on how to empower local communities, especially youth, with the knowledge and tools needed to reject tobacco use and advocate for healthier lifestyles.

This workshop marks an important step in Tishk International University’s continuous efforts to promote health awareness and contribute to global public health goals. The Faculty of Applied Science remains committed to supporting educational activities that drive social impact and foster a tobacco-free environment for current and future generations.
