Community Health Education Initiative
On January 15, 2025, students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Tishk International University took their expertise beyond the university walls to Renwayi Elementary School. The activity was designed to educate the younger generation on the impact of dietary choices through engaging presentations and interactive play.
The visit focused on a critical comparison between:
-
The convenience of fast food
-
The benefits of a balanced, whole food diet
School Administration Welcome
The initiative was warmly received by the school’s administration. Principal Naznaz commended the university students for their professionalism and their ability to connect with the children.
“Educating our students about nutrition at this age is vital,” Principal Naznaz remarked.
Interactive Presentations
The students delivered a series of presentations tailored for elementary-aged children. Using relatable examples, they illustrated:
| Food Type | Key Points |
|---|---|
| Fast Food | Often tasty, but frequently high in sodium, unhealthy fats, and processed sugars — can lead to sluggishness and health issues |
| Healthy Food | Described as fuel for the body; vitamins and minerals support brain development, bone growth, and physical energy |
Engaging Game Activity
To ensure the message resonated, the university students organized a high-energy game titled “Is This Food Healthy or Not?”
| Game Element | Description |
|---|---|
| Activity | Children were shown various food items |
| Task | Quickly categorize items based on their nutritional value |
| Reward | Thoughtful gifts distributed to celebrate participation |
