Community Outreach for Public Health Education
On January 8, 2026, as part of its ongoing commitment to community outreach and public health education, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Tishk International University organized an interactive visit to Gohdar Elementary School. The event provided second-grade students of Gohdar School with the opportunity to apply their academic training practically, empowering local youth with fundamentals about food, nutrition, and healthy living.
School Administration Welcome
The initiative was warmly welcomed by the school’s administration. Principal Farhad Wahid praised the students for their professionalism and their ability to connect with the children.
“Educating our students about nutrition at this age is vital for their future,” Principal Wahid remarked, noting the positive energy the university team brought to the school.
Educational Focus
The visit focused on making the link between dietary habits and academic success for young school students. Nutrition and Dietetics students delivered an easy and informative presentation designed to simplify complex nutritional science for the elementary students.
The seminar emphasized how a balanced intake of nutrients serves as the essential fuel for both:
-
Physical development
-
Mental clarity needed to perform well academically
Practical Workshops
Moving beyond theory, the TIU team engaged the pupils in practical workshops focused on:
| Workshop Topic | Focus Area |
|---|---|
| Benefits of Whole Foods | Understanding why natural ingredients are superior to processed snacks for long-term energy |
| Mastering Portion Control | Using visual guides to help students build a balanced plate independently |
| Developing Lifelong Habits | Practical tips for choosing water over sugary drinks and incorporating a variety of food groups into daily meals |
Curriculum Integration
For the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, these visits are a core component of the curriculum. Guided by Head of Department Dr. Pary A. Arsalan, students gain invaluable experience in:
-
Community health advocacy
-
Public speaking
-
Translating classroom knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process into community action
By engaging in such initiatives, they continue to uphold Tishk International University’s mission of excellence in service and education.
