On May 9, 2026, the Department of Physiotherapy at Tishk International University (TIU) organized a delightful spring social picnic in the scenic Aquban area within the Shaqlawa District. Designed as a key extracurricular initiative, the trip brought together a vibrant group of students spanning across the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades, alongside dedicated faculty members, including Dr. Muhammad Sidiq and PT Paiwand Mamand.
The primary objective of this social outing was to foster stronger relationships and encourage meaningful social interaction among students from different academic years, creating a unified and supportive departmental community.
Refreshment, Nature, and the Importance of Social Life
Stepping away from the demanding environment of lectures, exams, and clinical labs, the trip offered students a crucial opportunity for mental refreshment. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Kurdistan Region’s springtime nature, the picnic allowed participants to unwind and recharge.
While academic excellence is a cornerstone of the TIU Physiotherapy Department, this initiative highlighted the vital role that outdoor activities and a healthy social life play in overall student well-being. Immersing themselves in nature provided several distinct advantages:
-
Stress Reduction: Spending quality time in natural green spaces significantly reduces academic anxiety and mental fatigue.
-
Peer-to-Peer Bonding: The informal setting broke down traditional barriers, allowing freshman and senior students to exchange experiences, advice, and build lasting friendships.
-
Enhanced Campus Culture: Activities outside the classroom cultivate mutual respect and a stronger sense of belonging to the university family.
Exploring the Charm of Shaqlawa
The adventure continued on the journey back to Erbil city. The students made a wonderful stop in the heart of Shaqlawa, enjoying a leisurely walk through its traditional markets and vibrant streets. A particularly meaningful highlight of the return trip was a group visit to the local mosque in Shaqlawa, allowing students to experience the local culture and spiritual tranquillity of the district together.
A Note of Appreciation
The Physiotherapy Department extends its highest appreciation and gratitude to the organizing team and the student leaders for their exceptionally well-prepared planning and execution. Thanks to their structured coordination, the trip was both safe and highly enjoyable for everyone involved. We look forward to organizing further social and recreational initiatives that continue to balance robust academic life with a thriving, supportive student community!
