On 4 February 2026, the Physiotherapy Department at Tishk International University organized an academic visit to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The visit was arranged for third- and fourth-grade students as part of the department’s commitment to integrating theoretical knowledge with real-world clinical exposure. This educational trip provided students with valuable insight into specialized rehabilitation services, particularly in the areas of prosthetics and orthotics.
For third-grade students, the visit was especially significant as they are currently undertaking coursework in prosthetics and orthotics with lecturer Dr. Aminu A. Ibrahim. Observing real clinical environments allowed them to connect classroom learning with practical application. Fourth-grade students also benefited greatly by witnessing how prosthetic and orthotic devices are assessed, designed, prepared, and fitted according to individual patient needs. Students had the opportunity to observe the full process—from evaluation and measurement to fabrication and final fitting—while understanding how clinical reasoning guides device selection for different cases.
In addition, students explored various rehabilitation units, including services tailored separately for pediatric, female, and male patients. They were introduced to the multidisciplinary rehabilitation approach, social inclusion initiatives, and assistive device preparation, including wheelchair services. The visit offered a comprehensive overview of how rehabilitation programs are structured to restore function, promote independence, and support reintegration into society. Exposure to such an environment enhanced students’ clinical understanding, professional awareness, and appreciation of humanitarian healthcare services. It also strengthened their ability to link biomechanical principles with patient-centered care and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The academic trip was organized under the supervision of Mr. Mahmood Soran, Coordinator of the Physiotherapy Department, and PT Paiwand Mamand, whose efforts in securing permission and coordinating the visit ensured its success. The department extends its appreciation to all contributors who made this educational experience possible. Such initiatives continue to reflect the department’s dedication to preparing competent, socially responsible, and clinically skilled physiotherapists.
