International Women’s Day

In an inspiring celebration of International Women’s Day, the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Tishk International University (TIU), in collaboration with the Dean of Students, hosted an event that addressed critical women’s issues in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The workshop aimed at fostering dialogue and awareness about the struggles of women in the region. Dr. Khanzad Ahmad, the Secretary General of the High Council for Women and Development in the Kurdistan Regional Government, headlined the event as a keynote speaker. Dr. Khanzad’s speech was centred around women’s rights, mentioning the numerous challenges faced by women in Kurdistan.

Addressing a critical component of women’s issues, Prof. Dr. Hamdia Mirkhan, the Dean of the College of Health Sciences at Hawler Medical University, brought to light the health challenges plaguing women in the region. Throughout her discussion, she offered a number of solutions for health problems that many women face. Towards the end of the event, a panel discussion and Q & A session was held. Dr. Runak Tahr from the Physiotherapy Department was in charge of the discussion, and she talked with Prof. Dr. Faiq Hussain, Head of Faculty of Applied Sciences, and the other speakers. During this session, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and inquire about the topic discussed.

As a symbolic gesture of appreciation and acknowledgment, the event concluded with a distribution of flowers to all the women present in the hall, serving as a reminder of their essential role in the society.
