On 4 February 2026, the Faculty of Applied Sciences marked International Cancer Day by organizing a scientific workshop dedicated to raising awareness and strengthening academic knowledge on cancer care and research. The event was collaboratively hosted by the Department of Medical Analysis, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Department of Medical Technical Radiology, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing one of the most pressing global health challenges.

The workshop featured five distinguished panelists:
• Jangi Shawkat Salai, Oncologist, Hawler Medical University, Erbil, Iraq.
• Yaseen Mammand Omar Galali, Assistant Professor, Salahaddin University, Erbil, Iraq.
• Negar Amir Hawezi, University of Nottingham, United Kingdom.
• Sami Mamand, Department of Medical Analysis, Tishk International University, Erbil, Iraq.
• Jaafaru Sani Mohammed, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Analysis, Tishk International University, Erbil, Iraq. Their diverse academic and clinical backgrounds enriched the discussions and provided participants with both local and international perspectives on cancer management.

The workshop witnessed remarkable attendance from students, faculty members, and healthcare professionals. Discussions were highly informative and educational, focusing on the latest global trends in cancer diagnosis, treatment strategies, research, and patient care. The panelists emphasized the evolving role of precision medicine, early detection strategies, advanced imaging, and supportive nutritional interventions in improving survival rates for cancer patients.

The workshop highlighted the crucial importance of early diagnosis, evidence-based nutritional support, and advanced radiological techniques. The speakers also talked about the significance of understanding cancer pathology within healthcare framework, and strengthening research partnerships.
