On September 9th, 2026 the Medical Analysis department, Faculty of Applied Science at Tishk International University organized a national workshop on Hanta Virus in collaboration with Hawler Medical University (HMU).
The event was attended by several esteemed guests including the President of Tishk International University, Prof. Dr. Sultan Abu Orabi, the Vice President of Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Ganjeena J. Khoshnaw and Vice President of Academic Affairs Asst. Prof. Dr. Safwan Mawlood Hussein , the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science, Prof. Dr. Faiq Hussain, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science, Assist. Prof. Dr. Tola Faraj, the Head of Medical Analysis Department, Dr. Sami Mamand.
The event featured two keynote speakers. The first speaker, Professor Dr. Aryan Ganjo, a Professor of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease at HMU and an academic staff member at Tishk International University, delivered an insightful presentation as an introduction to Hanta virus. Her presentation covered how Hanta Virus spreads, the clinical manifestations of Hanta Virus Infection and the pathogenesis of the disease.
The second speaker, was Prof. Dr.Shirin Abdullah Hamasalih, a Professor of Medical Virology at HMU, that delivered a presentation on the viral structure of the Hanta virus, it’s impact on public health and the main methods of diagnosing the patients infected with this virus.
Overall, the workshop was very useful for the audience as it involved a discussion on several ways that could help preventing the Hanta virus from spreading. This workshop strongly supported SDG 3 through promoting health awareness, SDG 4 by enhancing academic knowledge in the field of medical sciences and SDG 17 by promoting partnerships for goals.
