October 29th, 2022, Tishk International University /Medical analysis department staff and Student have organized a campaign to increase awareness about Breast Cancer at Zhyar High School in Erbil, under the supervision of Lecturers (Mr. Goran N. Saleh), (Ms. Muzhda H. Saber) and (Dr. Runak T. Ali) along with a team of students from the university. The goal of breast cancer awareness campaigns is to raise the public’s “brand awareness” for breast cancer, its detection, its treatment, and the need for a reliable, permanent cure. Help them recognize the early signs and symptoms of cancer, thus enabling them to seek treatment at an early stage. Educate people about the key risk factors, since more than 30% of cancer cases could be prevented by modifying lifestyle or avoiding the risk factors.
The event was held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is observed every October to raise awareness about breast cancer and promote early detection and treatment. The presentation aimed to educate the students and staff of Zhiyar High School on the importance of breast cancer awareness, prevention, and early detection. The presentation covered various aspects of breast cancer, including its causes, symptoms, and risk factors. The team of researchers discussed how breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, and how early detection can greatly increase the chances of successful treatment. They also emphasized the importance of self-examination and regular mammography screening. During the presentation, the team spread pink ribbons to the students and staff as a symbol of their support for breast cancer awareness. The pink ribbon it’s an international symbol of breast cancer awareness, and wearing it represents a commitment to raising awareness and supporting those affected by the disease. In addition, the head manager of Zhiyar High School was awarded by Tishk International University plaque certificate in recognition of the school’s support and collaboration with the university in organizing the event.
The event was a great success, with the students and staff actively engaging in the presentation and asking questions to gain a better understanding of breast cancer. By collaborating and raising awareness, Tishk International University and Zhiyar High School hope to make a positive impact in the fight against breast cancer and improve health outcomes in the community.
Thousands of lives could be saved each year if people were more aware of the signs and symptoms of cancer and people looked for help as soon as possible as treatment is usually more effective in the early stages of cancer. Breast self-examination is a noninvasive, low-cost screening method for breast cancer detection. A thorough awareness of breast self-examination enables the early detection of breast abnormalities and dramatically lowers breast cancer complications and mortality.
