CatVax National Workshop and Community Project
The Medical Analysis Department, Faculty of Applied Sciences at Tishk International University (TIU) organised the CatVax National Workshop and Community Project on May 12th, 2024. The event speakers discussed crucial subjects pertaining to feline immunisation and the well-being of animals. The workshop was graced by esteemed attendees, including the Head of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Idris Hadi Salih, the President of TIU, Prof. Dr. Sultan Abu-Orabi, the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Prof. Faiq Hussain, and the Head of the Medical Analysis Department, Dr. Tola Faraj.
Dr. Sulaiman Tammer, a veterinarian and the Director of the Kurdistan Organisation for Animal Rights Protection, discussed the topic of animal rights, emphasising the significance of cat vaccination and the need for responsible cat ownership. The presenter’s speech sparked a deep discussion among the participants and motivated numerous individuals to adopt responsible and compassionate behaviours towards their pets and the broader animal community.
Dr. Hemdad Hawez, Assistant Professor and Laboratory Manager at Mihrabani Hospital, as well as a part-time lecturer in the Medical Analysis Department at Tishk International University, delivered a presentation on parasites found in cats, particularly Toxoplasma gondii, and its transmission to humans. He stressed the significance of being cognizant of the hazards linked to owning pet cats and urged cat owners to implement measures to mitigate the risk of transmitting such diseases.
Following the event, the veterinary team administered vaccinations to the cats of Tishk International University, thereby safeguarding them from contagious illnesses. The event was highly successful, effectively increasing public consciousness regarding cat immunisation, animal well-being, and conscientious cat guardianship. The national workshop and community project exemplify the continuous endeavours of the Medical Analysis Department to advance health and wellness.
